Golf Day Boosts Bursary Funds

Warm and pleasant sunshine welcomed Alumni of Bolton School and their friends to the annual Bursary Golf Day at Bolton Golf Club.

Teams were made up of Old Boys, Old Girls and their friends, with the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions offering up two teams as well.  All of the players were delighted by the fine weather, which was a welcome change from the last few years of rain! Each team paid an entry fee, all of which were donated to the Bursary Fund, and additional funds were raised on the day through a raffle.

This year’s Golf Day raised a total of £5,491 for the Bursary Fund, all of which will go towards paying the fees for the next generation of deserving pupils. This fantastic amount is enough to fund a half bursary for one year!

Laura Firth, the School’s Development Manager, said, “The event continues to be well supported across the School community and we are incredibly grateful to all those who played or made a donation to secure this outstanding sum.”

The tournament itself was a closely fought contest, but the eventual winners were the Russell and Russell team, captained by OBA President Peter Leather (1973-1980). The Boys’ Division team came in second place, and third went to the Ravat and Ray Dental Care team.

The event was sponsored by Ravat and Ray Dental Care, with Barclays Bank also supporting the event by matching the raffle takings to contribute hugely to the total raised. Aejis Events Managements sponsored the tournament prizes. Raffle prizes were donated by Retreat, Victoria Inn, Aejis Events Management, Café Italia, T Wright Wines, Ian Orrell, the Professional at Bolton Golf Club, and 530 Dental Care.
