A two-year contract to become part of Sale Sharks full time academy will take the rugby career of former Bolton School pupil, Andrew Hughes, to another stage.
He marked his England U18 debut with one of their nine tries in the 57-13 win over Scotland at Darlington RFC in March this year, having taken up the game with the U9 squad at Preston Grasshoppers. While at Bolton School, he played for the first XV, captained the Lancashire U16 side and represented the North at that level.
His happiest rugby memory was the U14 Lancashire Cup final against Aldwinians. He said: “We were level 7-7 at the last play and I chipped over the defence which led to a try along the way to the second of our five consecutive Lancashire Cup wins.”
Andrew most admires Juan Martin Fernández Lobbe, of Argentina, for his passion and dedication to his clubs and his country. “He always gives everything he has for his team” says Andrew, who has figured at inside centre for club and school but is a specialist back row forward.
