Old Boy Arun Releases Third Album
Thursday, 12 September 2013
Bolton School Boys’ Division former pupil, Arun Ghosh, is set to release his third studio album, ‘A South Asian Suite’.
Arun is a British-Asian clarinettist, composer and music educator. His new album is described as an original Indo-Jazz chamber work, inspired by the music, landscape and peoples of Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka as seen from the viewpoint of a British-Asian from a Northern town. The Suite consists of six movements and contained within them is Ghosh's musical response to each of the 5 countries of the Subcontinent, highlighting regional variations in style, tempo and mood.
Arun released his critically acclaimed debut album Northern Namaste in 2008 followed by his equally praised 2nd album, Primal Odyssey. His latest offering will be released in October this year. He said:“As I developed A South Asian Suite over the course of its performances, it became clear to me that the sound and style of the work required the irreplaceable drive, groove and feel of the tabla and dholak. In this respect, A South Asian Suite's instrumentation mirrors my debut album Northern Namaste but whereas Northern Namaste was very much a studio 'prepared' and controlled album, I knew I wanted to retain with A South Asian Suite, the fiery and live spirit as captured on Primal Odyssey.”
