"The classic Bolton School combination is hard work, good friends, challenging and thought-provoking teaching, a healthy desire to puncture the self-important and the sense that you can work hard to achieve things in life. "

Old Boy Joins New Zealand Army

Thursday, 17 April 2014

Old Boy Ryan Daniels left Bolton School in 2007 for Clark University in Worcester, near Boston Massachusetts in the US. His time there studying psychology was eventful and thoroughly enjoyable – and, according to his mother, very similar to the experience portrayed in popular culture! After graduating, he moved to New Zealand to live with his mother.

In March 2013, he joined the New Zealand Army. He completed his Army Recruit Course in June last year, and took part in the ceremonial March Out Parade in front of the platoon’s friends and family. There is a video on YouTube of Ryan’s platoon performing the March Out Haka.

Private Daniels of the 2nd 1st Division is now based at Burnham, Christchurch. As it turns out, he is a crack shot and thus became his platoon’s sniper. He hopes to develop his career and skills further by joining the Special Forces in the future.

It is amazing to consider how far Ryan has travelled since Bolton School, both in distance and in strength of character.
