Old Boys Compete At Commonwealth Water Polo Championships
Sunday, 13 April 2014
Two Bolton School alumni who once played Water Polo for the Boys’ Division have gone on to play at the Commonwealth Water Polo Championships. They joined their fellow athletes in Aberdeen as the seven international teams went head-to-head.
Ed Grundy was playing for Scotland, who made it through to a bronze-medal match against South Africa. As a strong scorer, Grundy’s efforts secured the team two much-needed goals at key points in the game to secure a well-deserved 6-5 victory in this closely-fought match.
England goalkeeper and Captain Ed Scott led his team through to the gold-medal match against Malta with a clean sheet of wins! The team got off to a great start and took an early lead, which they maintained throughout the match despite the best efforts of the Maltese. They went on to win comfortably with 16 goals to 9: England’s best Commonwealth Water Polo performance since their bronze medal in 2002.
Both Old Boys have therefore returned home with medals: gold for Scott and bronze for Grundy.
