Parallel Oreos in The Taste Celebration Gig
Wednesday, 12 March 2014
Pop group The Parallel Oreos from Year 9 of Bolton School Boys’ Division entertained guests at Ryan Giggs’ George’s restaurant who were celebrating victory for Bolton contestant Debbie Halls-Evans in last night’s Channel 4’s cookery show The Taste.
The gathering of Debbie’s family and friends toasted her triumph as local press gathered at the glitzy party held at the Worsley restaurant. The Year 9 boys played an upbeat 45 minute set which included hits from the Arctic Monkeys, Mumford and Sons and Queen.
Adam Critchlow, reflecting on their morning’s work, said: “It has been a great experience. We started the band when we were in Year 4, so we have lots of experience of playing together. We have played at the Roadhouse and The Hilton in Manchester as well at weddings. Hence we were well prepared for this gig and everything went very smoothly.”
The three final contestants were asked to produce a three course meal in 90 minutes and prepare 3 tasting spoons for each mentor turned judge - multi award-winning food writer, TV cook Nigella Lawson; critically acclaimed chef Ludo Lefebvre; and legendary food maverick Anthony Bourdain. Debbie, a mother of four, who now lives in Blackrod had suffered many highs and lows throughout the 9 week series but in last night’s dramatic final held her nerve and produced dishes that wowed the judges and saw her crowned as The Taste winner!
