Bolton School Senior Boys

Plate Winners at Arnold 7s

In recent weeks Bolton School has entered the world of rugby 7s.  The U13s visited KEQMS Lytham on Sunday 28 February and despite their inexperience played well, enjoying their day which finished with them narrowly losing 17-12 to Birkenhead School in the Bowl Final.

The U15s also went to the Fylde coast, this time to Arnold School.  Bolton won two of their four group games, qualifying for the plate.  We then had a comfortable semi final victory of 52-7 over Lytham.  After this they convincingly beat QE Kirby Lonsdale 42-17 to win the Plate final.

The following week the U15s travelled to the King's Macclesfield 7s competition, unfortunately this was the day after the boys' epic Lancashire Plate semi final victory against Stonyhurst, 8-7.  A much depleted side competed well and enjoyed their day out in a tough competition.

The School's Senior 7 were invited to Stonyhurst 7s for the first time and despite certain players not being available, competed very well in a strong group of five.  Bolton beat Shrewsbury 22-0 and Queen Ethelburga`s 22-21, losses to Stonyhurst and St Edward`s meant the side finished a creditable third and progressed into the plate competition.  A 17-7 quarter final victory v Birkenhead  School  took us to a semi final against old foes St Ambrose College.  Our opponents started too well scoring three quick tries.  Despite a valiant comeback attempt, St Ambrose held on to a deserved win which took them to the final.

A tired yet content squad headed home after a fantastic experience.  A  special mention must go to Tom Reynolds and Michael Shepherd  who were called into the squad late showing good pace as they crossed the line to score on a couple of occasions.
