Romeo and Juliet Preview for Junior Girls
Thursday, 06 March 2014
Hesketh House kicked off their World Book Day celebrations in style this morning with an assembly all about Shakespeare’s most well-known love story. Senior school pupils from Years 10 and up performed scenes from this year’s Joint Production of Romeo and Juliet.
Intense and aggressive choreography evoked the Montague and Capulet street brawl at the very beginning of the play. However, Benvolio was saved from Tybalt’s blade by the Prince of Verona – to gasps of surprise from the junior girls, who hadn’t spotted him watching the scene from the back of the hall! The cast then jumped forward to the Capulet Ball scene, where Romeo and Juliet first meet. A mashup of a slow, acoustic-style cover of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘Dancing On My Own’ by Robyn was the perfect musical accompaniment and allowed the senior school pupils to show off their dancing skills.
The Hesketh House girls thoroughly enjoyed the show, which gave them a taste of what was in store from the Joint Production.
The last few tickets for Romeo and Juliet are still available to purchase from the Riley Centre Reception during morning break, and are priced at £5 per person (adult or child).
The Joint Production will take place in the Arts Centre from Wednesday 26th March to Saturday 29th March.
