Rugby Boys are Sevens Runners Up

Bolton School Boys’ Division Senior rugby players made their first trip out on the sevens circuit when they travelled to the picturesque Kirby Lonsdale rugby club.

Wearing their brand new strip, kindly sponsored by boot company, Bolton were drawn amongst a group of Cumbrian schools. Bolton won their first encounter 22-12 when they defeated Ullswater School. A second win came when Bolton defeated the host school QES Kirby Lonsdale 31-21. The final group game saw the two undefeated sides Bolton and QEGS Penrith go head to head. The game swung many ways before a single conversion split the teams 22-20 in Penrith's favour with the try count level at four each.

Bolton finished second and qualified for the plate competition. In the semi final, tough opponents Austin Friars were beaten 27-22 in another thrilling game. After two tough games the Bolton players began to feel the effect of a long day and though they made the final, it was perhaps a game too far and RGS Lancaster ran out worthy winners.

Head of Games, Mr Paul Fernside, said: “Captain, Nathan Stansfield, and Vice Captain, Drew Winstanley, topped the try charts with six each, but credit must go to all the squad who performed superbly well during a thoroughly enjoyable competition.”
