School Hosts Regional Final of the National Chess Team Challenge

Bolton School played host to the regional final of the National Chess Team Challenge for Secondary Schools.

Seven schools took part including teams from Bolton School Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions, making up 14 teams of 4. The afternoon tournament lasted around two hours and consisted of four rounds each lasting 25 minutes. The winning school was Manchester Grammar School, and as such they have qualified for the National Final at Imperial College London on Wednesday 23rd April 2014, along with the winners from each regional final.

The Team Chess Challenge is a competition open to any British school with pupils in any of years 7 to 13. The principal aim of the regional final is to bring together large numbers of school teams to enjoy playing chess.
