The Senior Concert Band took part in the Carols by Candlelight concert, which was held at Manchester Cathedral in support of the NSPCC.
The evening began with a welcome from Canon Dr David Holgate and the event’s sponsor, Mr Nick Payne, before continuing with a selection of carols, festive songs and readings. The Senior Concert Band played the classical ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’ by J.S. Bach, followed by ‘A Christmas Festival’ by Leroy Anderson, which is a medley of various familiar Christmas favourites, including ‘Deck the Halls’, ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, and ‘Jingle Bells’.
The concert also featured Alderley Edge School for Girls and individual performances, as well as carols sung by the audience. The Senior Concert Band provided an accompaniment for one of these: a stirring rendition of ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’.
The money raised by the event will go to the ChildLine Schools Service in Greater Manchester, which aims to protect all children in the area from abuse and neglect. It will also recruit and train volunteers to deliver this pioneering service in all local schools across the borough.
