Students Benefit from Careers and HE Convention
Tuesday, 13 October 2015
Almost 1,000 GCSE and A level students from across the region enjoyed this year’s Careers and Higher Education Convention held at Bolton School. The event took place in the Great Halls of the Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions and throughout the new Riley Sixth Form Centre. Sixty organisations and thirty HE institutions from Dundee to Southampton as well as international universities had stands at the popular event. With seminars on improving your employability, applying to dental school, student finance, Oxford application, applying to medical school, disabled student allowance and apprenticeship opportunities, the evening proved a must-attend event for the Year 9-13 students and their parents.
The biennial event is one of the largest of its kind in the North-West and there were delegates from a wide range of companies and businesses, including Cowgill Holloway, the BBC, The Bolton News, MBDA Missile Systems, and many more; the construction-related and engineering sectors were particularly well represented. The Army and the RAF were also on hand to discuss the options available, as were the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Police. A number of dental and medical professionals also spoke about these challenging and rewarding career paths. Amongst the HE providers were the University of Manchester, the University of Salford, the University of Law, Durham University, Bath University, Bristol University, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Liverpool, the University of Leeds, UCLAN and Study Medicine Europe.
