Swim Team Triumph at Northern Schools Relay

The Bolton School Boys’ Senior U18 relay team won the 4x50 Medley Relay at the prestigious Northern Schools' John Parry Relays, setting a new Bolton School record at the same time.
The senior team of Oliver Walker (Capt) Paddy Pender, Teddy Pender and Sam Ball pipped hosts Nottingham High School by 200th of a second to win the 4x50 Medley Relay in the record time of 1.57.57s. However honours were even when Nottingham won the 4x50 freestyle relay beating Bolton School by the narrowest of margins. The senior team now look forward to competing in the Annual Bath and Otter Cup in London in March 2013.
The Intermediate U15 team of Dominic Walker, Matthew Martin, Thomas Prayle and Luke Allsup also took part and were not too far behind their senior colleagues. They came second in the 4x50 freestyle relay and third in the 4x50 medley relay.
The John Parry Relays were swum for the first time approximately 50 years ago as a memorial to the late John Parry, Master in Charge of Swimming at Barnard Castle School and Bolton School have not won this Trophy for more than 15 years.
There was yet more success for the Bolton School swim team when they beat close rivals Manchester Grammar School in an annual match. Competition between the two teams has always been keenly fought and true to form the result came down to the final race. MGS led by two points and Bolton School needed to win the senior 4x50 freestyle relay, which they did resulting in a final score of Bolton School 191 and MGS 189 - the first time Bolton School have beaten MGS in over 8 years!
