Teachers Help Promote Rugby League in Bolton

Monday, 04 April 2011

Bolton School staff took part in a teacher tag rugby league session at Smithills School to help promote rugby league in the Bolton area.

The event was organised by Leigh Centurions player and Bolton community rugby league officer, John Duffy, who has been coaching at several schools in the borough including Bolton school.

In the first game Bolton took a two try lead against Rivington and Blackrod - the tries being scored by Marc Tillotson and Ian Hughes. Rivington bounced back to level and the game ended an honourable draw. The second game was an intense affair against Westhoughton, with both sides defending well to keep the try line empty.  Paul Fernside had a try disallowed which could have sealed the game, but the Howfen lads played from the turnover and scored a late winner.

The night was a huge success and the teams will be meeting again as the official curtain raiser before the Leigh Centurions v Batley game on Sunday 1st May.
