Bolton School Senior Boys

The Creation Showcases School's Talent

Over two hundred and forty participants from across the Bolton School family demonstrated their musical prowess with a stunning performance of Josef Haydn's magnificent oratorio 'The Creation'.

The School's Joint Orchestra, along with members of staff provided Haydn's colourful and supremely imaginative instrumental accompaniment. The Girls' Division Senior Choir, Boys' Division Senior Choir, Bolton School Chamber Choir combined with the Parents' Choir, comprising parents, staff, governors, former pupils and friends of the School, to offer a magnificent choral ensemble for the challenging and exacting choruses.  Three highly accomplished professional soloists also played their part in this thrilling evening of inspiring music; soprano Lorna James whose soaring, apparently effortless top 'C' was a feature of the evening along with the lyrical tenor Mark McCloskey and the rich, sonorous bass-baritone voice of Jonathan Ainscough each executed their roles with breath-taking aplomb.

Mr Alistair MacKenzie, Director of Music in the Girls' Division, conducted these forces for this breathtaking concert, which, given the complexity of this musical masterpiece, was a wonderful tribute to the School community's depth and range of musical talent.  The audience of over 500 people was truly appreciative and provided a standing ovation at the conclusion of this splendid performance.
