Year 9 pupil Thomas Mills got a shock when he answered the phone
- to hear comedian Johnny Vegas on the other end.
The star of Ideal and Benidorm was ringing Thomas to tell him he
had got a part in a new comedy that Vegas was writing and
Thomas plays a young Johnny Vegas in 'Little Crackers', a series
of short films written and directed by famous comedians, telling a
story from their life when they were younger.
Thomas said: "I was shocked when he rang me himself to tell me I
had got the part. I was a bit overwhelmed to be acting with such a
great talent as Johnny. I like expressing myself through acting and
it's my dream to do it professionally. Everyone at school was
excited for me - they all kept asking me about it. My teachers were
really pleased with me and said I should be proud of myself."
Thomas is a member of Willpower Youth Theatre in Wigan and found
out about the auditions through their talent agency, which he is
also a member of. Johnny Vegas said: "We all agreed the hardest job
would be casting the right young Johnny, but everyone who saw him
agreed Thomas was the only lad for the job. He was disarmingly
charming, yet cheeky when we needed him to be and he has amazing
instincts for an actor his age. He was a genuine joy to direct and
holds the film together."
The programme will be broadcast on Sky TV on December
