Triumphant Return for Musician on the Cusp of Stardom

Jordan Allen, who left Bolton School in 2010, returned to offer up a blistering lunchtime acoustic set in the school’s Arts Centre. Jordan, who has seen his music used on Soccer AM and lauded by the likes of BBC 6 Music and Xfm, has been likened to Jake Bugg, but cites his own influences as being The Courteeners, The Artic Monkeys and The Hives. He has performed nationally and is lined up to play the Kendal Calling Festival this summer. 

Leaving the rest of the band behind, Jordan performed a set at Bolton School which included Holding Fast, Rich and Famous, Remembered, Tough Luck, Daydreamers, Unchartered Youth, Space and Set in Stone. During the gig he reminisced to pupils about his time at school, telling them that the Arts Centre seemed a lot smaller now compared to when he played Fagan in the Junior Boys’ production of Oliver Twist.  He told them he did not really pick up a guitar until Year 9 so even if you do not study Music at GCSE this does not mean you cannot forge a career in the industry. 

Jordan is currently coming to the end of a Marketing degree at Leeds Beckett University whilst working part-time. He will devote his full-time attention to the band from June this year, when they enter the studio with the aim of releasing two new songs in the Autumn. The group has recently secured the services of former Muse manager. 

Jordan recalled having drum lessons with Mr Forgrieve at Bolton School before starting to take private guitar lessons at the age of about 14 or 15. He was turned on to music after his dad took him to an Xfm’s Wonderland gig which had The Courteeners and The Ting Tings on the bill.
