U13 Water Polo Team Wins Coveted President’s Trophy

Over the weekend, the U13 Water Polo Team took part in the prestigious President’s Trophy Tournament. The national tournament was again hosted at Bolton School, with four teams taking part: Bolton School Boys’ Division, Manchester Grammar School, St Bede’s Grammar School Bradford and Warwick School.

The Year 8 boys faced off against their opponents in a round-robin tournament, with decisive wins in the opening round of the competition. They won 5-0 against Manchester Grammar School, 3-0 against St Bede’s Grammar School Bradford, and 8-2 against Warwick School.

In the semi-final round, the Bolton School team played Warwick School for the second time and managed to better their round one score: when the final whistle blew, Warwick School had scored two goals, but the home team had bettered them with a final tally of twelve points.

The final was against local rivals Manchester Grammar School. Both teams played extremely hard to for the trophy, but the Bolton School boys were the eventual victors with a respectable score of 7-2.

The U13 team received the President’s Trophy and each boy received an individual medal. The team’s coaches named Gareth Edwards Williams the player of the tournament.

This is the fourth consecutive year of the Year 8 water polo players testing their mettle in the President’s Trophy tournament, and the fourth year in which they have been victorious.
