U13s' School Team Plays MCC Hub Team
Thursday, 26 June 2014
Bolton School U13s' cricket team has enjoyed a tight T20 encounter with the MCC Hub team, which is based at the School.
The School team made 104 all out, which proved enough to secure a narrow victory by 6 runs. Michael Gibson was instrumental in the win, having scored 30 runs, he then went on to take six catches and two wickets.
The MCC Foundation Hub for the North-West has run at Bolton School for the past three years. It has an Entry Group for Y5s and Y6s of primary schools, an Intermediate Group for U13s and an Advanced Group for U15s. It is aimed at children in maintained schools who may not otherwise get a chance to develop their cricket talents. Much of the success of the Hub is due to the energy and commitment of the coaching team, led by the commanding figure of Mike Fletcher. Well-known players from Lancashire County Cricket Club, former captain Warren Hegg and Sajid Mahmood have lent their support and have contributed their experience and expertise to the course. Over 100 children have passed through the hub since its inception and during the tea break, awards were given by Mrs Susan Brealey, Director of the MCC Founation, to Marcus Haydock for being the U15s' Player of the Year and to Harris Akhtar for being the U13s' Player of the Year.
