A group of Year 9 boys performed a Haka during morning Assembly as part of the 2015 Rugby World Cup celebrations. Mr Fernside’s form took to the stage in front of the rest of the year group to perform the Haka at the opening of the Assembly.
The rest of Year 9 thoroughly enjoyed watching the Haka, which was full of energy and enthusiasm.
After the Haka, the boys were introduced to two young professional rugby players: Andy Hughes, an Old Boy of the School, and Tim Jeffers. Both play for Sale Sharks and were able to take questions from the boys.
Since leaving Bolton School, Andy has played for the academy side, Sale Jets. He made his debut with the Sale Sharks in 2013 during their European Challenge Cup match against Biarritz, and his first start in an LV Cup match against Worcester in 2014. He has also played for the Sale Sharks in European Rugby Champions Cup matches. During the 2014-15 season, he has joined National League 1 side Fylde on a dual registration basis, and played for South Africa’s Eastern Province Kings on their U21 team in July 2015.
It was a real inspiration for the boys to meet professional rugby players and be able to ask questions about the sport, playing professionally, and the World Cup.
