Bolton School Senior Girls
Economics and Business Studies
The study of Economics and Business Studies aims to develop an academic interest in both subjects which goes beyond the confines of a textbook. As they are topical subjects, girls are encouraged to develop a broad knowledge of the external economic and business worlds, through wider reading, topical debate and current class based activities. We also offer a weekly current affairs workshop where girls have the opportunity to discuss present-day economic and business events.
The girls also have the opportunity to take part in a number of competitions throughout the year. The prestigious Target 2.0 allows the Economists to present their ideas and opinions on current monetary policy to a panel of Bank of England representatives. Whilst the Business students participate in the highly competitive BASE competition which requires the girls to develop and present a business strategy from a complex business scenario. We also have a number of organised trips and residential visits, including to London and Paris.
The Department boasts a high progression rate on to Economics and/or Business related degree courses. Both subjects also support higher education applications to many varied degree courses as well as developing skills and qualities required in the world of work.
