The ICT Department deliver a number of courses including GCSE Business and Communications Systems, GCSE ICT and AS/A2 Computing certification with AQA. From September 2015, GCSE Computing has replaced GCSE ICT and AS/A level Computer Science with OCR has replaced AS/A2 Computing. We teach general software packages using the most up-to-date Microsoft Office Professional software, the system which pupils are most likely to come across outside school. We also use Scratch, Python and Adobe Illustrator to create games, solve problems and to design graphic images.
Various extra-curricular ICT and Computing sessions are available. These include Animation Club and Programming Club. Within these, students develop and extend a further range of ICT and Computing skills including the creation of complex animations using Flash with graphics tablets, programming with Scratch and using Python with Raspberry Pi’s (including programming robots).
The ICT Department regularly takes members of the Animation Club to the annual Animation competition run by Manchester University. GCSE pupils have also participated in activities at the Apple Shop in the Trafford Centre.
