Brendan Cole Waltzes in for Dance Masterclass

Strictly Come Dancing star, Brendan Cole, visited Bolton School during the holidays to teach Bolton children some of his famous moves.

Brendan’s visit was part of The Brendan Cole Dance Academy for youngsters aged 7 to 16, which is taking place in the Arts Centre at the School. The workshop, in conjunction with Activate Sport and the Co-operative, is part of a wider programme of activities aimed at raising awareness of sport among youngsters. Students experience professional choreography with head coach Chris Wilson and sessions include a steps workshop, routine building, an end of course performance and, of course, the question and answer session with Brendan.

The snake-hipped professional, who is one of only three dancers to have appeared in all nine series of the hit BBC TV show Strictly, set up the academy last July to encourage youngsters to get off the sofa and onto the dance floor. He said: “The inspiration behind my academy is so much more than teaching kids to dance. Once dance grabs you it can open up so many different opportunities, as it has done for me. Giving kids the chance to learn this art form could potentially change their life.”

“Dancing is an important part of a child’s development. It’s not just about learning steps and keeping fit, it also teaches many different skills including posture, rhythm, co-ordination, interaction with others, emotional expression and more. Most importantly, it is a fun way to get active. Learning the discipline of dance strengthens the body and the mind, but most of all it makes you happy.”
