Brilliant Bakes from Christmas Cake Club
Tuesday, 17 December 2019
This term, girls in Years 8 and 9 have been hard at work creating an impressive batch of Christmas Cakes. The beautifully decorated results went on display on the Girls’ Division Great Hall staircase at the end of term, and many guests at the Ceremony of Carols paused to admire the girls’ efforts.
The intricate decorations of the Year 8 cakes were judged by Headmistress Sue Hincks. After much deliberation, she selected two winners: Lottie Howarth-Siney and Sophie Swift.
Lottie’s design was picked for its fun, creative concept with Santa stuck up the chimney and Miss Hincks also liked all the little details, such as the house number. Sophie’s cake was selected for its more traditional all-white design, which was iced very well and accented with beautiful snowflakes.
The two worthy winners received book tokens, which they will hopefully use to buy something related to baking or cookery.
Zara Kadva and Maya Guhathakurta were also Highly Commended for their designs: Miss Hincks loved the sugarcraft that went into Maya’s creation, featuring a Father Christmas, a reindeer and Christmas tree, and the homemade and perfectly iced gingerbread that Zara used to decorate her cake, as well as the lights used as an accent.
