Y10 pupil Annabelle Gibbs, who is studying for a GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition, has won this year's Christmas Cake competition in the Girls' Division. For the last six weeks, girls in the Christmas Cake Club have been busily preparing their masterpieces, having gained inspiration from a visit to the Good Food Show in Birmingham earlier in the year. Food Technology teacher Mrs James, who along with Headmistress Sue Hincks judged the competition, said Annabelle's creation was "out of this world and would be worth £100 on the high street - she should go into business!". Annabelle said she is going to try and save the cake until Christmas Day in order to show her grandparents.

Head Girl Priya Guhathakurta's cake was also admired, a Father Christmas falling headlong into a cake, and Kathryn Austin's cake with intricate edible lace was commended for being "highly technically advanced".
