Year 11 pupil Ellie Broome has only been playing golf for two years, but already she has begun to receive awards for her performance.
She was introduced to the sport by her father and grandfather, who took her along when they went to play. When she became interested in taking up a set of clubs herself, she joined Kirby Lonsdale Golf Club and hasn’t looked back since.
The club’s Junior Championships are normally half half way through the season, but were delayed this year due to the weather. They were therefore held over the latest half term break. Ellie competed and beat strong competition to achieve the best gross score on the day. She was named the Junior Champion 2014 and received the club's Casson Trophy for her efforts.
This is certainly a well-deserved win for an excellent golfer whose skills have already been recognised. Over the summer holidays, Ellie was not only invited to play at county level with the Cumbria Ladies County Golf Association, but her impressive talents were spotted at a training session and she was called to join the Cumbria Girls’ Elite Golf team. She is now looking forward to taking part in more county-level tournaments, and also individual competitions at her club.
