ESB Award for Sharon
Saturday, 07 November 2015
Year 9 pupil Sharon Daniel recently attended the English Speaking Board (ESB) Young Speaker of the Year event, where she was officially presented with her ESB Ambassador Award.
The ESB is a national organisation which promotes and assesses excellence in public speaking. Pupils in Year 6 at Hesketh House, Bolton School’s Junior Girls’ School, are introduced to the award and last year a huge number of girls achieved their Junior Medallions, many with distinction. Girls in Year 8 are then offered the opportunity to complete the next level of ESB examinations.
Sharon really enjoyed taking part on both occasions, and after completing her examinations in Year 8 she received word that she had been selected for the prestigious ESB Ambassador Award. As part of her role as an Ambassador, she was interviewed about her experience with the ESB and how it has helped her to gain confidence and improve her communication skills.
In early November, she travelled to Birmingham to Highbury Hall for the ESB’s Celebration of Excellent, which presented awards to eight young people from across the UK. Sharon was presented with her award by Mr Mathew Burton, one of the stars of Channel 4’s Educating Yorkshire.
