Football Festival for Year 7 and 8 Girls
Monday, 28 April 2014
Bolton School hosted its second festival of girls’ football today, in association with the Independent Schools Football Association.
The competition was for Year 7 and Year 8 pupils. Eight teams from the Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), Canon Slade, Turton, Rivington & Blackrod, Thornleigh and Bolton School took part in the tournament, which ran as two groups. The Bolton School girls showed a lot of energy during every game but unfortunately on this occasion the competition was too strong.
Canon Slade won the Group A competition, and Turton emerged the Group B victors. It was a closely contested final, with Turton eventually beating Canon Slade 1-0. Turton were therefore crowned the overall victors for 2014 and were presented with the Centennial Football Cup.
The sun was shining throughout and the girls were able to enjoy a full afternoon of football, playing both competitive and friendly games as part of the festival. All of the teams played with enthusiasm and represented their schools with pride.
