Bolton School will host a free lecture from Art Historian Michael Howard about ‘The Poetry of Art and the Art of Poetry’ on Thursday 27th April 2017 at 7.00pm in the Girls’ Division Sutcliffe Studio.
Members of the public are invited to join Bolton School pupils and staff for this occasion.
Michael taught in the History of Art department at Manchester School of Art and Design at the Manchester Metropolitan University for over 30 years and is married to the artist, Ghislaine Howard. He is President of Bolton Decorative and Fine Arts Society and a practising artist in his own right.
He has published widely on European art of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His books include L.S. Lowry: A Visionary Artist, The Impressionists by Themselves and Monet, published in association with the Musée Marmottan, Paris. He has just published a major monograph on book his wife’s work and their lives together, Ghislaine Howard: the Human Touch.
Michael has featured on television and radio many times, most recently on 28 March this year in a film on Lowry. In 2004, he and Ghislaine worked on the film Degas and the Dance which has received many awards, including one of the prestigious Peabody awards.

This free event is open to everyone and will take place in the Girls’ Division Sutcliffe Studio on Thursday 27th April 2017, beginning at 7.00pm. Refreshments will be available beforehand from 6.30pm. Parking will be available in the Girls’ Division Quad, which will be clearly signposted on the night.
