At the end of the last academic year, Rosalyn Harper and Shreya Kamath, who are now in Year 11, entered the UK Schools Computer Animation Competition. The competition ran in the summer of 2018 for the final time after being held annually by the University of Manchester for 11 years with 10,000 entries from over 1,000 schools across the UK.

To enter the “Animation18” competition, pupils created an animation lasting 60 seconds or less using software such as Adobe Flash, Blender, Alice or Scratch. The entries were grouped by Key Stage and divided into individual and group awards, and there were several special awards across all entries.

Rosalyn and Shreya were rewarded for their creativity and dedication by winning the Key Stage 4 Group Award for their Adobe Flash animation “The Monster in the Room”, which highlighted issues with constant mobile phone use. The prize for each pupil was an Amazon voucher worth £100 which they received in an assembly just before the summer holidays.

Their winning entry can be seen on YouTube here.
