Girls Are Regional Final Tennis Champions
Thursday, 26 September 2019
The 2018-19 tennis season for the Y10/Y11 team from Bolton School Girls' Division was a very successful one.
In the AEGON Team competition in the Summer term, the girls played league fixtures against Westholme, Canon Slade and Stonyhurst, winning all of their matches. The team then went on to win the Semi Final of the competition against Formby High School and the Final versus AKS Lytham.
As winners of the local rounds, the team played in the Regional Finals at the John Charles Centre, Leeds on Thursday 26th September. The team faced Queen Margaret’s (York) in their first game of the day, winning all of the singles matches with Sophie Bracegirdle and Eve Gould winning their doubles. The girls then played the winners of the other half of the draw who were Crossley Heath School from Halifax. Sophie faced a tough opponent in her singles match so was unable to come away with a win, but Eve Gould, Jessica Bailey and Kareena Singh all won their singles matches. One doubles was then needed to secure the victory - and the girls won both! Their teacher, Mrs Hollyoak, said: "There was some excellent tennis played throughout the day, and it was a great finish to the season. Congratulations to the team of Jessica Bailey, Sophie Bracegirdle, Eve Gould, Carol Habib and Kareena Singh for their efforts throughout the season and the fantastic achievement of becoming the Division 2 Regional Final Winners."
