"The classic Bolton School combination is hard work, good friends, challenging and thought-provoking teaching, a healthy desire to puncture the self-important and the sense that you can work hard to achieve things in life. "

Girls Meet Award Winning Author Bali Rai

Friday, 24 May 2013

Award winning author for young adults, Bali Rai, visited Bolton School to talk to Year 9 pupils in the Girls’ Division about life as an author.

Bali gave talks to the girls about his books, followed by Question and Answer sessions, in order to get pupils more interested and excited by reading and inspire them to write. Bali explained to the pupils that they don't have to have been on an amazing journey or involved in extraordinary situations to be able to write great stories, and that the stimulus for much of his own writing is everyday life. He also spoke to the girls about issues surrounding multi-culturalism, ethnicity, citizenship and politics which he often covers in his books.

Bali's debut novel, (Un)Arranged Marriage was published in 2001 to fantastic reviews and his books have since been nominated for and won numerous book awards across the UK. He is firmly established as a leading voice in teenage fiction.
