"The best thing I can say of the school was that it worked. It embedded in me habits of reading and thinking as well as an enduring curiosity about just about everything."

Girls Raise Thousands in Great Manchester Run

Thursday, 19 May 2011

Four Year 10 pupils from Bolton School Girls' Division have raised almost £3000 for charity by completing the Bupa Great Manchester Run.

Mellissa Pye, Jessica Unsworth, Georgina Wallis and Abbie Palmer ran the 10 km for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, a charity close to their hearts as their school friend Eleanor Harding is currently being treated for Leukaemia at the Royal Manchester Children's hospital.

Headmistress of the Girls' Division, Mrs Gill Richards, said: "I am very proud of the four girls who have raised all this money.  To raise the best part of £1,000 each is outstanding.  I know Eleanor is delighted with her friends' endeavours too."

Family and friends supported the girls by giving generously, and their hard work in training and on the day was rewarded by the huge amount of money they raised.
