"Recently I won the Mensa Child Genius Competition and I believe that it was possible because of the academic skills and the skills to perform in front of an audience and to keep calm under pressure that I acquired at Hesketh House."

Lifesaver Lucy Wins Salford 100s

Thursday, 24 November 2016

Year 7 pupil Lucy Dixon has won the annual Salford 100s Lifesaving Competition. Sixty-two girls from schools in Bolton competed at Westhoughton pool, with twelve Bolton School pupils taking part.

Swimmers had to complete timed tasks as part of the competition. First they retrieve a brick from the middle of the pool and swim back to the side with it balanced on their chest, before returning to the centre to rescue a person and bring them safely to the side as well. They also had to swim across the pool using breast stroke legs only.

After the timings were combined, Lucy was the fastest of all the swimmers and won the competition.

Five other Bolton School pupils were among the top twenty competitors.
