Nalisha is Lancashire Player of the Season
Tuesday, 04 October 2011
Year 9 pupil Nalisha Patel, who plays for the Under 13 Lancashire County Girls Cricket team, has been voted player of the season! It was a double celebration for Nalisha as the Lancashire Girls U13s also triumphed as National Champions for 2011, after beating Sussex in the final.
Nalisha, U13 all rounder (top order batter and off spin bowler), has been representing the County for three years now and hopes to officially move up to the U15 team next season. She received her award at the Lancashire Cricket Board Development of Excellence Presentation Evening in September with 450 players and parents in attendance. Lancashire Cricket Board's Director Andrew Hayhurst presented the evening with John Heaton (Lancashire Schools Cricket Association Secretary) and John Stanworth (Academy Director). Guests of honour were: Geoff Ogden Lancashire's Cricket Chairman, Cricket Director Mike Watkinson, Head Coach Peter Moores, First Team Captain Glen Chapple and First Team Player Karl Brown.
The Lancashire Cricket Board were impressed with Nalisha's performance: "Nalisha has had a tremendous season with both Lancashire at U13 and U15 levels. She has performed with both bat and ball, showing her all rounder status. She has batted at 3 and has put in some match winning innings, most memorable 91 v Cumbria following it up with 4 wickets with her off spin. Her bowling has improved greatly this year, she has shown control and maturity when bowling especially in the Finals at Derby. Nalisha has made the step up to U15s County and also is playing regularly for Bolton Women's team where her best figures were 3 for 5. Her continued drive to perform, improve and wear the red rose has meant she has excelled as an all rounder in 2011."
