Pupils in Bolton School Girls’ Division have been celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results which includes the new number grades. The Girls’ Division is only doing English among the reformed subjects and three girls achieved 9s in both English Literature and English Language. Nationally, it is expected that just over 2% of English grades will be at the top level of 9. The girls have 6.7% grade 9s at English Language and 8.65% at English Literature. 21.2% of English Language or Literature grades were at either level 8 or 9.

Every girl at Bolton School Girls’ Division achieved at least 5 A*-C grades (9-4), with nearly 60% of all grades being at A* or A (or 9-7) and almost 30% of grades at A* (9-8). 84% of girls achieved at least 8 A*-B (9-5) grades, a slight increase on last year. 98.6% of grades were at the A*-C (9-4) level.

One girl achieved 12 A*s (or grade 9/8s); five girls achieved 11 A*s (grade 9/8s), five girls achieved 10 A*s (grade 9/8s), two girls achieved 9 A*s (grade 9/8s), and three girls 8 A*s (grade 9/8s): 16 girls achieved 8A*s (9/8s) or more.

Headmistress Sue Hincks said: ‘I am delighted by the girls’ excellent results, particularly in the “new” English examinations which were designed to be especially testing this year. I wish all the girls every success as they move in to the Sixth Form.’

Besides the overall success of the cohort, there were many individual success stories. Khadijah Ali, who only joined the School in Year 10, achieved 12 A*s or equivalent. Antonia Jameson achieved the incredible feat of top grades in everything – 9 A*s and a 9 in both English Language and English Literature. Thea Simpson achieved 7 A grades (and a B and C) whilst playing national water polo.  Jessica Hindley, Lucy Mercer, Abigail Shaw, Katie Tan, Amelia Wood, Georgina Crowther, Antonia Jameson, Fatima Naeem, Fatima Saleem, Inika Vardhan and Khadijah Ali all achieved at least 10 A* grades.
