"Three years ago I was undereducated, underachieving and underestimated. The bursary at Bolton School meant that I had a chance at changing my life. It offered me new blueprints for the future, and I saw endless possibilities."

Poetry Competition Runner Up

Tuesday, 15 July 2014

Kiran Cheema from Year 9 is the runner-up in this year's The Children’s Bookshow Competition!

The Children’s Bookshow is an annual tour of children’s authors and illustrators, which aims to inspire children with great poems, beautiful illustrations and gripping storytelling. The tour is accompanied by a national competition, which was set by poet Kit Wright. The challenge, which was open to children aged 9 to 13, was to create a poem based on a favourite picture.

Kiran wrote a poem called ‘Meant To Be’. She used a piece of artwork of a girl in a forest with a bird as her inspiration.

“I usually write stories, but recently I’ve been writing poetry more and more,” she said. Her skills as a poet earned her the runner-up position in the competition.
