Girls in Year 7 spent a school day in silence to raise money for Cash for Kids and Key 103’s Mission Christmas. This annual appeal asks for donations of money and presents to allow disadvantaged children and young people aged 0-18 across Greater Manchester to receive gifts at Christmas.
The girls and their families raised an incredible £2,800, once again beating last year’s fundraising total!
Representatives from each Year 7 form then went to Toys R Us at Trinity Retail Park in Bolton to spend half of the money on a wide variety of toys and games for young boys and girls.
Girls went around the store in pairs with a trolley, accompanied by a Prefect to keep track of the amount of money they had spent. Each trolley was tasked with obtaining a specific set of items, either with an age group or a theme such as ‘sport’ in mind. They all tried to find the best possible deals, allowing them to stretch the money further and purchase as many presents as possible.
The remaining £1,400 of donations was partly converted into gift cards for older children and teenagers, and partly given to Mission Christmas as a cash donation, which will go towards large presents such as bikes.
The Year 7 girls who visited Toys R Us were amazed at the amount of gifts they were able to buy with the money raised. The whole year group is delighted that their fundraising efforts will go towards helping so many disadvantaged children in the local area.
