Year 7's Silent School Day Supports Cash for Kids
Friday, 13 November 2015
The Year 7 girls spent a whole school day in silence to raise money for Cash for Kids. This is the fourth year in which the year group has supported KEY 103’s Cash for Kids appeal by fundraising and then converting the cash into toys at a local toy store.
The girls were able to communicate with their teachers and classmates using whiteboards or a drawing app their iPads to write messages. However, it was a huge challenge to keep quiet throughout the day – especially when the sponsored silence took place on the same day as the School’s Children in Need activities!
However, the girls did really well, and will now start to collect their sponsorship ready for donation. A group of girls will travel to the local Toys R Us store in December to purchase toys using the money raised. These will then be delivered to one of the Cash for Kids donation points, and passed on to young people throughout Greater Manchester with mental, physical or sensory disabilities, with behavioural or psychological disorders, living in poverty or situations of deprivation, or suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.
Some girls will also be interviewed by KEY 103 about their experience.
