Seven boys and eight girls from Bolton School's Year 12 took
part in the Key 103 Challenge. Working in two mixed groups, the
students spent two hours in the morning producing an advertisement
and two hours in the afternoon producing a twenty minute radio show
at the Key 103 studios in Castlefield.
The students benefited from some expert advice and help from
professional producers and broadcasters, meeting Key 103 DJ Jason
King and comedian Justin Moorhouse (Little Kenny from Phoenix
Nights).
James Morton, a Sixth Former involved in the project, said: "It
was great, really vibrant and gave an excellent overview of how a
radio station works."
The two advertisements that were produced marketed the School's
Sixth Form and one of them will run in the Autumn Term on Key's
popular "In Demand" slot. Firstly, the students brainstormed some
creative concepts, then, after planning our their work, they
produced it in an editing suite in a professional studio. You can

The 20 minute radio shows included music and chat as well as an
interview with their teacher, Miss Heather Tunstall, about the work
that Bolton School undertakes in terms of engaging with the local
community.
Miss Tunstall, who coordinated the students participation, said:
"We had a fantastic time and the Sixth Formers were an absolute
credit to the School. They worked well in teams, made sensible and
creative choices in quite a limited amount of time and presented
confidently and effectively. In a fun way, it gave the students a
chance to develop skills that you cannot necessarily pick up in a
classroom"
