The Bolton School First Team travelled down to Chigwell over the weekend to compete in the annual Idependent Schools' Football Association (ISFA) Sixes Tournament.
During the morning’s group matches, wins against University College School and Dover College seemed to be enough for a top two finish. However, a questionable win for UCS against Millfield – who had earlier beaten Bolton 1-0 in a very close game – sent the mathematicians into overdrive! After some quick calculations, all three schools on were equal six points! Unfortunately, the Bolton School team was eventually handed third place by one goal difference.
The lads picked themselves up for the afternoon Plate competition. Wins against Westminster, St Columba’s and St Paul’s saw the team reach the final against RGS Newcastle. Despite the hot weather the boys recorded their sixth win 3-1 to be crowned ISFA Sixes Plate winners.
To pick up silverware at the end of the day was the least the boys deserved, having only lost once all day! Captain Will Dowie received the trophy from CSS Sports, the tournament sponsor, which will also sponsor the senior squad’s Madrid tour at Easter.
The long trip home will be the last for a few years as next year the ISFA Sixes tournament ventures north, with Bolton School hosting in 2016.
