Bolton School Sixth Form Boys

IPad Prize for Sam

Sixth form pupil Sam Chisnell is the owner of a brand new IPad thanks to his marketing brain!

Sam won a Business Studies competition to help the School market 'Tenacity of Bolton' - the Ketch built by boys in school which is now used for sailing expeditions for pupils and is also available for the public to hire. Sam had to design a Marketing Plan for the boat in which he identified possible target markets, conducted a market analysis, researched the background of the boat and its competitors and produced a financial summary. He conducted his market research by contacting sailing clubs to gather information about the market and generated ideas to promote the boat such as internal advertising and mailings to parents along with external ads and a presence on Social Networking sites.

Sam was rewarded with the IPad for his winning plan. Bolton School Clerk and Treasurer, Simon Marsden, said: "Sam did an excellent job in producing his Marketing plan and came up with some interesting concepts that we will consider using in the future. Although the boat was built by and is used by our pupils, many people are not aware that it is also available for the public to hire for teambuilding or adventure weekends."
