Sam's Winning Debut for National Barbarians
Thursday, 03 February 2011
Year 13 pupil Sam Higgins represented the country as part of the Independent Schools Barbarians U18 National rugby squad, in an impressive first match against Irish Exiles.
The Barbarians beat the Irish Exiles 55 points to 17 at KEQMS on Sunday 23nd January in their first game of the season with Sam scoring 'an excellent breakaway try'.
The squad is made up of the best rugby players from Independent Schools in the country including Cheltenham College, Portsmouth Grammar and Woodhouse Grove School. Sam was chosen after impressing selectors while playing for the North squad earlier in the year at the ISB Divisional Championships at Moseley RFC.
The Barbarians teams aim to expose the talents and expand the opportunities of above average players from a number of independent rugby playing schools. The idea is to give the boys a platform to play which is above and beyond their school's 1st XVs.
