The Senior Rugby Tour to Portugal was a resounding success. The 1st XV team made it to the U19 Plate semi-final, where they defeated Malvern from Pennsylvania. They then faced Agronomia for the Plate in a thrilling and tense final fought out in front of several thousand at the University of Lisbon stadium. The Bolton School side emerged victorious with a final score of 6-5!
The international festival of rugby brought together a wide range of teams. Premier British schools such as Millfield, Colstons and Myerscough College were present, as were top French side Biarritz and touring sides from Argentina and Spain. They were joined by invitation teams, including Crawshays from Wales and the London Nomads. The Bolton School 2nd XV combined with Myerscough College to form a Mid-Lancashire XV. This combined team performed famously to come third in their U17 competition, chalking up notable victories over Benfica RFC, Cascais and CDUL!
The touring party enjoyed a pleasant stay in nearby Estoril, where spare time was spent on a historical tour, fun on the beach and enjoying the local victuals. The staff and players are grateful for the sponsorship and support from KPMG, Engineering Service Company, and Silk Group.
