"The best thing I can say of the school was that it worked. It embedded in me habits of reading and thinking as well as an enduring curiosity about just about everything."

Sixth Form Historians Commended for Essay Writing

Monday, 29 April 2013

Two Bolton School Year 12 boys - Jack Daly and Nathan Brennan - have been highly commended by Sheffield University Department of History for essays recently submitted for the university's annual Sixth Form Essay Competition. Jack discussed the question of why Europeans discovered the Americas and not vice versa, while Nathan considered the possibility that slavery was only abolished because it had become unprofitable.  Both of these essays will be printed in the forthcoming Spring issue of the HistOracle magazine.

In addition, Jonathan Bond (also in year 12) has had his essay on the history of assassins, which featured in the last edition of the HistOracle, selected by the Historical Association for a Young Historians' prize.
