Town’s Football Team and Independent School to Collaborate
Friday, 23 November 2012
Bolton Wanderers Football Club is to collaborate with Bolton School Boys’ Division to launch a new two-year international sports course.
The programme will add to the portfolio that the club already offers and will allow 16 year old students from around the world to move to Bolton to spend 3 days a week experiencing elite football training and 2 days a week studying A-levels in PE and Business Studies at the prestigious Bolton Independent Boys’ School.
Participants on the course will live with a local host family and experience total immersion within a professional football club enabling students to develop within a fast paced European football environment, learning from highly qualified coaches and their international peers. High class facilities are available to students at the BWFC Academy training ground and Bolton Arena.
Academically, students will mix with Bolton School Sixth Form boys as they join tutor groups and will be able to make full use of the school’s new state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre, which will open in September 2013. Applicants will need to pass an online academic selection test and there will be a Skype interview. It is expected that many participants will progress on to university to study Sports Science and Sports Management degrees.
Headmaster, Mr Philip Britton, said: “We are always pleased to be in partnerships that promote the strengths of Bolton as a town. Blending the well respected sports training packages at Bolton Wanderers with our own reputation for academic excellence should provide a really exciting option for bright and able international sportsmen to develop themselves.
Boys aspire to excellence very often by competition. Academically able young men with strong sports skills on this international course will further stimulate boys within school in PE and business studies to excel.”
Chairman of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, Phil Gartside, said “This exciting partnership offers students a unique mix of elite football coaching at Bolton Wanderers alongside studying for A-Levels at one of the top schools in England."
