Pupils Contribute to ESSA’s Water Polo Success

Two boys and a girl from Bolton School have spent the October half-term helping out the English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) put in some impressive displays at the Malta Exiles International Water Polo Tournament.  Jack Phillips and Marcus Crompton both represented the ESSA 2001 Boys’ Team, who picked up silver medals, and Thea Simpson played in the gold-medal winning Girls’ ESSA team. 

The boys’ team enjoyed a productive set of training games, beating Malta 2003 17-7 and 20-7 in two separate matches and also overcoming Exiles 1998 by 19 goals to 8. The boys took their good form into the tournament proper, beating Nautilus Roma 17-1 and Livorno 7-5 before losing narrowly to Malta, 11-10. 

The girls’ team played a series of five games against Malta Senior Women. Three pre-tournament games saw them come out as 2-1 winners, followed by two tournament matches over the weekend which saw the ESSA girls' team win the gold medal!
