"Three years ago I was undereducated, underachieving and underestimated. The bursary at Bolton School meant that I had a chance at changing my life. It offered me new blueprints for the future, and I saw endless possibilities."

Double Commonwealth Medal Joy for Emma

Monday, 11 October 2010

Sixth Form pupil Emma Saunders will jet home from the Commonwealth Games in Delhi with two medals after helping England's 4x100m freestyle relay squad claim silver.

Emma joined forces with Amy Smith, Jess Sylvester and Fran Halsall to clock 3.40.03 and finish third in the race, but the team were upgraded to silver after Canada, who had originally placed second, were disqualified for a false start during one of their exchanges.

Emma, who added the silver to the 4x200m bronze she won earlier in the week, said: "We've never done relay all together as a team before so it was always going to be tough and I think we put up a good showing. I enjoyed it but the Aussies were too far ahead in the end."

Emma swam the third leg in 55.51 seconds before handing on to Jess Sylvester.
