Two Sixth Form students at Bolton School Girls' Division,
Roxanna Azimy and Megan Scott, have designed a winning fashion
collection in the BBC Blast 'Your Label 2010' Fashion Design
Competition, and will now get to showcase their designs at London
Fashion week in September!
The competition was run in conjunction with the V&A museum
and entrants had to use one of the on-line museum collections as
inspiration to create their own fashion collection. The girls opted
for the 'Japanese' themed collection, and their designs were chosen
as one of ten national winners.
Roxanna said: "The idea to enter the competition came to me
whilst I was revising for my GCSEs on the BBC Bitesize
website. An advertisement popped up and I was drawn in.
I am amazed to think we are now off to London!"
Roxanna and Megan produced a moodboard, a concept statement and
a capsule collection of outfit designs which were judged on
originality, creative flair, how the designs worked as a collection
and how the V&A collection was used to inspire the designs. As
winners, the girls were given mentoring and master classes with
fashion industry professionals in order to produce their garments.
Roxanna and Megan worked with Christina Blackburn who is linked to
established fashion designer, director and consultant, Olaf Parker,
who has worked for fashion houses including Karl Lagerfield,
Christian Lacroix and Calvin Klein. The final fitting took place at
Bolton School and the girls put on a fashion show for their parents
to help them prepare for their big moment at London Fashion
