Old Girl Wins Student Wallpaper Design Competition
Monday, 22 September 2014
Old Girl Olivia Brown, who left the Girls’ Division in 2010, won the fifth annual Student Wallpaper Design Competition.
She was tasked with creating a wallpaper based on the clothing designs of Zandra Rhodes. After two initial study sessions, Olivia was one of twenty-seven university students and several members of the CAMAC Design Group who were allowed access to rarely-seen examples of the Zandra Rhodes Archive to use as inspiration. Olivia then went away and designed wallpaper based on the themes and motifs in the designer’s work.
Olivia’s striking monochrome design was one of the final three selected to go on display, and she was also named the overall winner of the competition.
The winning wallpaper designs were displayed on the walls as part of the Fashion and Textile Museum’s tenth anniversary show Zandra Rhodes Unseen from the 12th of July to the 31st of August 2013. She also received one roll of the wallpaper, which she brought to Bolton School on her recent visit to show to the A Level Art students.
